Promoting Sustainable Land Use Planning: Capacity-Building Workshop for Local Representatives and Municipal Staff

Background & Rationale
Khandbari Municipality, located in the eastern hill district of Sankhuwasabha, is undergoing rapid urbanization and land-use transformation. With increasing challenges related to unplanned settlements, deforestation, infrastructure pressure, and disaster vulnerability, there was a pressing need to build local capacity in sustainable land use planning.
To address this, the Everest Center for Research and Development Partners (ECRDP), in collaboration with local authorities, organized a two-day intensive training workshop tailored for elected representatives and municipal employees.
Objectives
- To introduce the principles and importance of sustainable land use planning in the context of local governance.
- To enhance technical and practical understanding among municipal officials regarding land zoning, land classification, and integrated spatial planning.
- To support participatory decision-making by aligning local development plans with long-term environmental and socio-economic sustainability.
